Have you had enough of this heat yet?
Oven roasting temperatures aside, summer 2016 has been a blast, and we're soaking up the last few weeks of it every chance we get.
August is the month of BIRTHDAYS! Hence, 19 candles, and four Birthday cakes.
#Diabeetus
First up was sweet Coulson's party, where we feasted on one of the most DELICIOUS cakes ever from the Pastry Place. It's a good thing that their business isn't right around the corner, or I'd be looking like this by next summer.
"GET UP, Katharine! The pizza guy's at the door."
Emerson adores her daycare "fwends."
The next weekend was non-stop go...and so much fun! We enjoyed breakfast with Kate and Gabe and met sweet baby Neil!
Then Mommy took Emerson to another "Birthday party," or at least that's what I told her. We were going to my friend Ashley's house for a Matilda Jane trunk show.
Ashley is so sweet, and her little girl Jaclyn is a DOLL!
I won't be able to use the "we're-going-to-a-party-instead-of-shopping" trick on her too much longer.
Another Birthday in Belk, Mommy? Really?
Next up, we celebrated Heather's milestone 10th Birthday at the Country Club!
Emerson was eating it up. Literally. She fell asleep eating pizza and Cheetos. What a life!
There is something so sweet about little girls at church! It's even sweeter that they're sharing puzzles.
Happy 2nd Birthday, Charlotte! I'll always remember her Birthday; it was the day I had surgery to remove my gallbladder. True story!
Who would have ever thought that Meagan and I would have blonde haired, blue eyed little girls one day?! But here they are. They're a (chocolate) chip off the old block.
The kids had a ball at the pool, while I made a game of swatting all the surrounding wasps with my shoe. They don't give gold medals for that?!
When I found this beanie baby backpack, I knew I had to get it for Charlotte. I still have massive tupperware bins of Beanie Babies that I thought would allow me to retire early...
I had enough fortune left over to take this sweet girl to lunch for her Birthday!
Last Friday my Dad was in town, and we had a delicious Golden Chick lunch with my grandparents.
After lunch my grandmother thought it would be amusing to take everyone's blood pressure. I can't make this up.
"Nanny, that's really hurting my arm. I don't think we have it on right."
"Katharine! Your blood pressure is registering 257! Oh wait, the cord is twisted."
Next time, I'll just take my chances at the doctor's office.
We spent that night in Greenville to get ready for Audrey's party the next day at- where else? The pool! When we arrived at Heather's we discovered a table full of pool toys that needed to be blown up. The problem? No one had an electric pump. So a few veins in our foreheads later we had a giant display of inflatables.
What's a bedtime?
Joy was oh so sweet to give up her king sized bed for the night. She wanted to make sure we had enough room to sleep comfortably. In theory, anyway.
I was so happy to have a sleepover with my precious baby girl, but let's just say that the comfort and luxury didn't happen as planned.
After breakfast we were party ready!
Happy 4th Birthday, Audrey! We had a splash!
All I could think is that Taylor Swift had an almost exact float at her 4th of July party last year. That makes us extra cool, right?!
While in Greenville I wanted to make the most of our trip, so I made sure to reach out to Karen and Rachael to see if they could handle were up for a visit. Behold the adorable!
Emerson held "her baby Eden" and even read some stories to her.
And Benjamin squealed with delight and gave us the best snuggles. I could eat him up! And I was so happy to see Rachael and Bryan. Super bonus: Bennett and Hilary (this sweet boy's uncle and aunt) were also there.
Funny story: all that morning we talked about Baby Eden and "BENJAMIN!" She really liked saying his name. She said it several times in a row quickly and then found out that it sounded like "Gingerbread Man," so that's what she continued to call him. Hahahaha.
And after all that partying, this was bound to happen...
But not for long. That evening we had way too much fun with the mermaid towel.
Like, WAY too much fun.
Jamie joined us this week for dinner and pool-side shenanigans. That kiddie fishing pole was on sale for 75% off at Rite Aid, and now I know why. We've already gone through two of them.
#MadeToBreak
Emerson really loves my friends. After they leave she always pouts and says, "Where's Joy/"Darfy"/Jamie/etc?" and asks about them several days and weeks afterwards.
In other news, I've been SUPER busy preparing for THIS:
Next week I will blog about this year's night of worship and what it's about.
Emerson is now at the age where she tells us stories about things that take place at daycare. I'm used to hearing tales of magnets and crafts, who fell on the playground, and who ate what. The other day Emerson retold a frightening rendition of something that happened to Miss Bri. All I could understand is that she was very scared about "Al Qaeda." I'd agree that this seems like a genuine threat, but I couldn't help but think that somehow the subject wasn't in their toddler curriculum.
What really happened? Miss Bri was painting outside and a CICADA got caught in her hair.
Pronunciation. It'll get you every time!
