'Twas the Week Before Worship

It's almost here!!! Can you feel the excitement?!?

So here's what the final weeks leading up to the Night of Worship have entailed.

First up was a surprise Birthday party for George!!! He is a super awesome dude who is ALWAYS willing to lend helping hand, and he even fixed my computer for me recently, therefore saving a trip to the Apple store.  He gives so much of his time and expertise, and he was most deserving of such a special celebration!

Unfortunately he figured out the surprise upon arriving, so although I had high hopes for a Youtube video of his reaction, we'll have to wait until his 60th.

This place is AWESOME!  It's a spend-the-night-party dream.

And oh, Emerson.  She RAN everywhere the entire time.  Literally.  I chased her and said "hold that thought" during about eighteen conversations before coming back holding her like a football as she flailed.

Here are the two seconds that she sat at the table.

Toddlers get so upset - I'm talking devastated - over the tiniest things.  Never in my LIFE!

1) The opening credits are too long on the Mickey DVD
2) The lid on her sip cup is red instead of blue
3) I moved her plate an inch forward on the table to keep it from falling off

And within two seconds all can be well again.

And what's a Birthday party without cake?  And a fire department on standby?

Afterwards he opened up gifts in front of the Wall o' George decorated with memorabilia from his life.  His wife, Julie, is so talented!  Then, it was time for the BIG surprise.

Was it a board game? A five pound bag of gummy bears? No, wait. That was my list.
This was a.... MOTORCYCLE!!!

And not just ANY motorcycle.  This belonged to George's Dad years ago, and the family tracked it down with the serial number, bought it back, and had it restored.  Now that is a Birthday surprise!

For weeks I've been driving around with the messiest car imaginable.  Forgive me, but it just hasn't been on my top list of 300 things to accomplish.  However, when I decided on a whim to replenish our stash of dish detergent, it spilled everywhere in my backseat.

So my question is: if soap spills all over the place...doesn't that count as cleaning?

#ThinkClean

Ryan has been nagging me for months, and rightfully so, to get rid of clothes, etc. that I don't use anymore.  I finally gave in and put a small pile of belongings in the garage.

On August 29th we combined forces with Jamie and Chris and had a yard sale.  In junior high school I helped two friends with yard sales.  That's the extent of my experience.  I always either donate my things or give old clothes away to family friends.  But because we had things like a TV stand, lamps, etc. we thought we might be able to come out decently that day.

Someone just told him we thought we'd make money at a yard sale.

Our things weren't "junk" or broken.  They were just items that we hadn't used in a while, so we cleared them out to make more room.  I made a sign for $4.00 shirts and $6.00 dresses.  And honestly, those prices were like a punch to the gut when I think about how much they were originally. One of the first ladies that drove up - in a luxury car - only wanted to pay $2.00 each.

I'm going to go in Belk and pick out a Ralph Lauren blouse, prance up to the counter with the clearly labeled price, and offer a smile and two bucks.

"How's THAT working for you?"

Some of our stuff was brand new and never used.  Now, please understand me, I am 100% for giving our things away to people who need it, and that's what I've done my entire life.  But experimenting with this "yard sale" burst my bubble.

I'm going to visit the world's finest museum with a bag of quarters and ask for their prized painting in exchange.

Or call the top real estate agent in LA and ask to see this house:

And then offer $100.  I take that back; it has a pool, so I'll up my offer to $105.

In fact, let's just go to Tiffany's and throw all the jewelry in a claw machine.  $.25 and you can have the engagement ring of your dreams!!!

Look at the cut and clarity of THIS one!

All in all, there were many lessons to be learned here.

A) Yard sales aren't worth the time.
B) Giving things away feels better than earning $3 for something you asked $15 for.
C) The value of earthly things is fleeting.

And then came the spiritual lesson.  It really was an eye opener.  "Things" have so little value in the big picture, even those that are from high end stores.  Everything about this earthly life is temporary- the label on your shirt, the sickness in your body...everything...will one day fade away.  It's just a question of how quickly.  We must have an eternal perspective.  The things of this world will never satisfy us completely.

One thing I sure wish would go away PRONTO is this sinus junk and cold that I've been battling. Knowing that I had to sing a solo on Sunday the 30th, I went to the pharmacist at Walgreens in a panic the night before.

I pointed to the general area of my throat and said, "Help me with THIS!"  She rang up some Mucinex DM and sent me on my merry little way.  Miraculously, I was able to make it through "Something in the Water" the next morning.  You can watch the video here.

We've also had many Birthday celebrations this month!

Emerson's friend from daycare, Aaron, had a party...she loves her daycare friends!

Then I took Abi out last week for a belated Birthday lunch, and her cake fell over in my car on the last turn.

I don't think "Happy THDAY" was quite the message I wanted, but it was the fault thought that counted.

And on September 5th Gabe officially turned TWO!

Emerson absolutely loved the bounce house!

It's so hard to believe that we are almost in the midst of FALL!  These are my favorite months of the year.  For the big opening USC game we had a cookout with Autrey and Ryan's Dad in the hail storm.  And our little tike had her game face on!

So of course we also had to please Poppy for the opening Clemson game.  I'd say she looks equally precious in both colors.

This past Sunday was the annual kick-off lunch at FBC.  I love this Sunday each year, plus we get a holiday the next day!

How unbelievably adorable are these two?!

I can HARDLY WAIT for the night of worship THIS Sunday. FOUR days away!  Months of prayer, preparation, and practice have been behind this project.  Hundreds of hours have been spent preparing music, videos, and finalizing important details.

And it will all come down to 7:15 this Sunday evening as I share a worship experience with those who are coming.  I have prayed for each and every soul that will be there in advance.  The Lord knows who has a need and who needs fulfillment and restoration in their walk with Him.  I pray that He leads all who need to experience this.

Even Emerson is ready!

What looks like a stage where we'll be singing is actually a window to Jesus and all that He can do in and through us.  I promise that you will not want to miss this.  It is going to be a game changer in the way you think of worship.  That's my prayer.

Here is a sneak peek of what we've been working on and what you can expect: Night of Worship Promotional Video.

Invite your friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, and come one...come all.  You are welcome in this place of worship...this sanctuary where you can leave your fears, doubts, and worries at the door as you enter.  Be a part of this worship movement...

...And expect the unexpected!
