You have three guesses to figure out how I ended up in this situation...
1. I was chasing a Krispy Kreme truck
"But officer, the HOT light was on. Can't you understand?!"
2. I was auditioning for a role in Swamp Thing
"Great scene, Mrs. Moody. You'll hear from our casting director next week."
3. I time traveled to the great flood in the Bible
"Now folks, meet Katharine. She is new here, so please be nice...and no growling, or else you can't board the boat...got it?!"
Hint: while perhaps convincing, it's none of these reasons. But you'll find out soon enough.
This month has been BUSY!!!
The week after Jay left (and I still miss him terribly) I played piano for Kristin and Josh's wedding. Congratulations to this couple! Note: that's Corey to my right, the incredibly talented florist. When I made this collage it dawned on me that some people would think he was the groom- hahaha!
My parents have come to town several times recently to see my uncle, and one of our last visits seemed appropriate to introduce them to their first group selfie.
The conversation prior to this picture was hilarious.
"Look, Jim. All of our faces are on the screen at the same time!"
"Fix your hair. Bend down. You're out of the frame."
"Katharine, is your arm long enough?!?"
"Katharine, is your arm long enough?!?"
This a perfect example for why a camera burst was invented. If you don't know what that is, there's a Technology Support group that meets at Best Buy each week. You'll find my grandparents in the middle of the circle.
"YES, for the last time, this is a wireless computer!"
That Saturday was super exciting...FINDING DORY was in theaters! We've waited over a decade for this sequel. Naturally, I had to celebrate it with two of my most special friends!
And Emerson played her first "REAL" game of life. And by that, I mean she sat at the table without destroying what we were doing.
"Poppy, may I borrow $20,000? Pleaaaaaase?"
We had a super sweet Father's Day this year. Just a wonderful time together!
I also enjoyed catching up with Meagan and Ashlyn on recent lunch dates. Love them!!!
We saw SEVEN people from our hometown at Webster's. I stayed in town a few extra days after Father's Day, because I had to be in Wilmington the rest of the week for a work meeting.
On the way there I met Harper, the sweetest new addition to the Moody family!!! Congratulations to Maggie and Aaron on your little DOLL!
Two of the teams in our region met for a training last Wednesday through Friday. Naturally I was loaded with candy and goodies and was probably the subject of many conversations when my friends returned home...
"There was this girl who talked 500 mph..."
"I sat next to Katharine, and then I fell asleep from exhaustion."
"I met a real, live Road Runner!!!"
Our conference room was FREEZING. And when I say freezing I mean the inside of a Yeti cup had less ice in it at the end of the day. So, my friend Chanel and I improvised and covered up with a table cloth. I mean, sometimes you've just gotta do what works.
Tablecloth = blanket on a budget
Of course I shopped in Wilmington. Otherwise, I might be rushed to the nearest hospital for fear that something was desperately wrong.
When I saw this precious mermaid beach bag, I had to buy it for Emerson. She loved it! She kept saying, "My mermaid bag! I really like it, Mommy! I love it!"
I got back from my trip just three hours before Courtney and Chris's rehearsal dinner. Let me tell you how much I love this family!!! Courtney and I grew up basically across the street from one another. We took dance together and have had many hilarious game nights. We both had special parts in each others' weddings, and she joined my Bachelorette weekend, too. She is absolutely incredible and radiates Christ's love in and out. I am SO beyond thrilled for her!
I was checking out the food selections that evening when I came across the groom's cake...now I didn't realize that Chris is a dentist, or else I would have known this was a tooth without question. I'm also short, so I was looking at it from a strange angle. But I could not for the life of me figure out what it was.
So I thought it was supposed to be one of these....
And everyone at my table bust a gut laughing.
The next morning we were invited over to Courtney's, where wedding central was happening. It was the most awesome and exciting atmosphere! The wedding party was getting hair and makeup done, there was a spread of food like I've never seen before, and Emerson had a TON of fun with Anna Parsons as they spilled over an entire bucket of blocks. 'Tis the season!
There were also coloring books filled with dresses, cakes, and flowers.
Just two hours later we were partying Paw Patrol style with Isaac for his third Birthday! Emerson LOVES Paw Patrol. It's responsible for 30% of the hard drive on our DVR.
While she was apprehensive about the massive slide, she did have a blast in the kiddie pool.
On the party favor table was an "Adopt a Puppy" basket. Of course Emerson had to have one of each color, and she appropriately named them "Rubble and Rocky." She has carried these everywhere.
Then it was time to get ready for Courtney's last couple of hours as a Jordan!
I was so happy to play piano and sing for her wedding. It was truly an honor. They had such a heartfelt and Christ-centered ceremony, and one of my favorite music moments of all time was singing "Holy Spirit" as the entire wedding party took part in Communion and prayer.

Then came time for the reception, and it was an absolute BLAST!
The food was phenomenal, thanks to Martha Whisnand and her genius of all things culinary, and the BAND!!! They made the night.
In the back of my mind I'm wondering if they'll still be available for Emerson's reception 20+ years from now. Of course they'll look a little different by then.
"Big wheels keep on turnin'...."
But WHAT a fun time!!!
But twenty minutes across town at that very moment, a wedding shower was being thrown for Ryan's first cousin, Autrey, and his fiancee, Heather. This was our only chance to celebrate with them. So when I feel pulled in multiple directions and don't want to let anyone down, I attempt to be in two places at once...which resulted in a major life lesson.
I told all my friends that I had to go somewhere quickly and would be back.
Key words: "I'll be back!"
I was completely confused about how to get to the shower. It was at a small hunting club in the middle of a field, and I turned down the wrong road three times in a fury before this happened...
That's one way to make me stay put.
I don't know what I was more upset about: the fact that my car was completely bogged down and wouldn't move or the fact that people were expecting me back at the reception, and I now had no way there.
Ryan shook his head and picked me up in the middle of the road as I smiled and congratulated Heather and Autrey. My shoes were absolutely caked with filth.
"Everyone smile and say, "MUD!"
Aunt Robin insisted that I borrow her car to get back to the reception, and I graciously accepted. I started going and realized, "Geesh. This car is kind of hard to drive." That's when I realized the parking brake was on.
So I couldn't find the brake button anywhere and realized it was a handle and released it. One crisis averted. I flew back to the Shrine Club, tracked through the wet ground and back inside, where I found everyone in the middle of the dance floor. So I ran and jumped in.
That's when I realized that they were doing the bouquet toss. For single ladies.
Can I go hide somewhere at this point?!? You can't argue that I'm a woman of my word. I said I'd be back, even if I had to borrow a car to get there. So what do you do at the end of such an exhausting day?!?
That's easy...you ride the soul train!
PS...Ryan and Kevin later went back to rescue my car, in case you were wondering.
The next day I participated in our church outreach project where we distributed DVDs and welcome packages within an assigned area in the community.
The moral of the story? Sometimes it takes a really messy circumstance to make you stop and realize what's important, and every situation is an opportunity for growth. If there is a way in, then there's a way out. When life gets messy, you show that mud who's boss.
And as for me, I'll never be able to sing the hymn with the line ..."all other ground is sinking sand" with a straight face.
